Allowing your child time to talk about his/her reading is a great way to promote deeper thinking. You have learned all the skills that are needed to engage your child in reading. Now it's your turn to show what you have learned. Record your conversation with your child. Use the rubric at the bottom of the page to guide your conversation with your child. The video below has two examples of quick and direct reading discussions. They are intentionally short in order to demonstrate that your conferences with your child do not have to be long. They just have to prompt your child to think deeper about what he/she is reading.
